Jacob & his family of 70 descended to Egypt for food. What began as a pragmatic act of survival lasted for over 400 years as God foretold Abraham 300 years earlier. The promise was seemingly lost in the longevity of the stay. But as the unequaled watch (reliable than the sung nuclear clock) at God’s ‘table’ began to beep, everything on earth, from Moses to Pharaoh underwent unanticipated change. The grip loosened & God led Israel, now over 2 million, out of Egypt. Israel entered Egypt “in the carts that Pharaoh had sent” (Ge 46:5) & left with the chariots running after them.
