Anna, the prophetess, is perhaps the least mentioned in the Nativity story. But Luke gave her a significantly brief portion in his meticulous writing. Married for 7 years & widowed for a period exactly twelve times, 84, she surely lived well over a century. Not only did she live for long, but she also served those unbelievable years faithfully “night and day.” When the man of her youth & heart left, she focused, without grievance, on the God of her ‘all-years’. She couldn’t bear a child for old age & a deceased hubby, yet she received the greatest gift personally: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given” (Isa 9:6). The inner temple had no place for Anna. God incarnate however embraced her on the outside.
