In a visit to the national museum with a colleague guest, I pointed to a life-size plough share with a yoke. The oxen-drawn agricultural tool took him by surprise upon learning that farmers in Ethiopia are largely dependent on it. The tool, which has been in use for over 3000 years, has also served as an illustration for spiritual illumination. Jesus used the metaphor to fittingly explain the need for relief & synchronized freedom: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you….For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Mt 11:28-30). The shift is from one burden to another “burden”. But the difference is obvious. In the walk with Jesus, the weight rests on Him. For us it is more of a touching experience.
