We count because we care; or we do it because we forget. We count days, possessions, money or anything we feel important. Unless we do proper recording, planning on distribution or stocking up could become unsettling. We do counting with the purpose deemed essential to us. It has therefore become a daily routine. Interestingly, it is not only earthly; Heaven also counts. We are told that God keeps a record, but not to refresh memory. He counts, because He cares. Jesus taught: “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies. Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” (Lk 12:6 -7).
