A chance of a lifetime! For Zacchaeus, a man of great wealth and little stature (“short”), nothing would come closer (Lk 19). His reputation was highly tarnished on account of his job. A chief tax collector by trade, he could only win hate and despise from the people. God’s visitation didn’t push him to the corner though. He instead “ran ahead” to see Jesus. If wealth (no matter how it came) was the measure then he would be the one to be on show, not Jesus. Jesus “looked up” & called him by his name when the people preferred the vicious adjective, “sinner.” A lost treasure in His hands now. Nothing is unwashable there! NA, in Christ.
