The question, “Who is my neighbor?” by “the expert in the law” was answered in a parable where action was lauded more than expertise. The road from Jerusalem to Jericho was dangerous because of its rocky & rugged terrain. A man fell to robbers & was left to die. A priest passed by; so did a Levite. Then came the Good Samaritan who had no Gospel to preach. An outcast within the Jewish community, he only acted out of a compassionate heart (Lk 10:34). For him, a “neighbor” is the nearest person in need. A traveler with purpose broke his schedule to “bandage” the “wounds”. Don’t walk away from the needy or waste your time chasing “the robbers.” Bend towards the needy.
